It wouldn’t be the holiday season without some awesome light displays. Nothing gets you into the holiday spirit quite like the twinkle of fairy lights or a beautifully decorated tree. And just because it doesn’t snow here doesn’t mean you won’t feel like you just visited Santa’s Village in the North Pole. Here’s a roundup of some of the best local light shows to get you and your loved ones in the holiday spirit!
Leave it to the geniuses at LEGOLAND California Resort to up the holiday game for everyone. The entire park is packed with festive décor and holiday shows through December 31. Not only that, but you can see the world’s largest LEGO tree trimmed with LEGO ornaments and holiday lights. The park is even debuting a new holiday light show and will be offering special treats like peppermint shakes and crepes.
Oceanside Harbor Parade of Lights
What’s better than a parade of holiday lights? A boat parade of holiday lights, that’s what! Check out the Oceanside Harbor Parade of Lights on December 8, and see boats of all shapes and sizes decked out in their finest holiday décor and lights. Stick around to see which boats will take home prizes and bragging rights. This event takes place at the Oceanside Yacht Club from 7-9pm and is free.
Christmas on Knob Hill
San Diego’s largest Christmas light display happens right here in San Marcos! Christmas on Knob Hill is an enormous display at a private home featuring more than 100,000 lights, 100 plastic figures, and 80 snowmen! This holiday tradition began in 1988 and now attracts approximately 15,000 visitors each year. If you stop by the week before Christmas, you may even get to meet Santa. San Diego Botanic Garden
Visit the dazzling winter wonderland at the San Diego Botanic Garden. Between now and December 30, parts of the garden are transformed with more than 125,000 lights, creating a magical holiday environment the whole family will enjoy. While you’re there, you can enjoy sledding, holiday crafts, food trucks, hot mulled wine, marshmallow roasting, horse-drawn wagon rides, and visits with Santa. There will also be live entertainment every night from 6-8pm. Open nightly from 5-8:30pm except December 24 and 25 when it will be closed for the holiday.
Carlsbad Christmas House
Finally, if you’re in Carlsbad then be sure to swing by the Carlsbad Christmas House. This popular local light show has been happening every year since 1993. You’ll get holiday lights with a Southern California flair as well as a nightly snow show. In past years, the light show runs through December from 5-10pm nightly. Check the Facebook page for 2018 dates and times.
