Discerning jazz fans call the San Diego Jazz Fest “the crown jewel of jazz festivals.” The event will be held during the Thanksgiving weekend at the Town & Country Resort and Convention Center, in San Diego. The SD Jazz Fest is a favorite of festival-goers from around the globe. All venues are conveniently located in the Town & Country Convention Center. There are large concert rooms with double dance floors as well as small, intimate “listening” rooms. The Festival bands represent a wide variety of traditional jazz, dixieland, ragtime, swing, and rockabilly styles. The Festival offers something for every taste in classic jazz.

Jazz bands and musicians from across the U.S. will perform. San Diego’s own High Society will open the festival Wednesday evening. Blues, swing and jump music will be performed by another San Diego treasure, Sue Palmer and her Motel Swing Orchestra, with vocalist Deejah Marie. A Ragtime offering is San Diego’s Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra together with vintage dancers in costume.

You can also catch a great swing extravaganza with two amazing swing bands: Stompy Jones and Campus 5 plus the Sweathearts of Swing. Tom Rigney and Flambeau will be playing Cajun, zydeco, blues and New Orleans music, as will The Euphoria Brass Band of San Diego, a fun New Orleans Street Music with 2nd line Parades. Red Skunk will be there with the swingin’, spontaneous, spunky, and exceedingly entertaining style that fans love. “JazzSea Jams” led by cornetist Dick Williams offers an opportunity for musically-inclined festival patrons to jam with an organized band. The Memphis Boys with Dave Beenett featured on piano and vocals will be performing Rockabilly classics by Jerry Lee Lews, Elvis, and others. You won’t want to miss guest artists Katie Cavera (banjo, guitar, bass and vocals) and Dave Levinson featured in three Clarinet Summits.

The Mission Bay High School Preservationists, talented young musicians who put on a terrific show, will also be on hand. Don’t miss a pianorama, featuring a variety of stylists from across the U.S. and Canada, including Stephanie Trick, Carl Sonny Leland, Paolo Alderighi and more. There will be dance demos by Joel Ply’s Hang 10 Hoppers and Marggie Adams’ Swing FX Dance Team plus dance classes by Georgia and Hal Myers. And on Sunday morning you’ll want to start the day with Gospel music with the Night Blooming Jazzmen of Claremont.
