Summertime and family fun go hand in hand, and there’s no end to the fun here in North County. No matter what your family enjoys doing, you’ll find endless options to keep you busy this summer season. Grab your sunscreen, raid the piggy bank, and get ready for a summer your family will never forget.
Legoland California Resort
It probably goes without saying, but Legoland California Resort should be on the top of your list this summer. As North County’s only theme park, it’s the epicenter of family fun in the area. And you don’t have to love Legos to enjoy the park. Check out the fun shows, visit the aquarium, meet your favorite characters, and ride the slides at the water park.
San Diego Children’s Museum
Located in Escondido, the San Diego Children’s Museum is the only hands-on, educational museum for kids in North County. Their programs, events, and exhibits focus on art, world cultures, and science and are geared towards kids from 0 – 10 years old. There are four exhibit areas in the museum that allow children to Discover, Experiment, Imagine, and Explore. Admission prices are $8 or less per person, so this is one place you and your family can visit multiple times over the summer.
Queen Califia’s Magical Circle
Also located in Escondido, Queen Califia’s Magical Circle is a whimsical outdoor sculpture garden nestled inside a 12-acre nature preserve. This colorful, vibrant garden features a snake wall, maze entryway, and nine freestanding sculptures. The park does have limited hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and the second Saturday of every month, but it’s worth the wait.
San Diego County Fair
Who doesn’t love fairway games, carnival rides, and elephant ears? Be sure to save time on your calendar this summer for the San Diego County Fair. Happening from June 1 – July 14 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the fair features today’s hottest musical acts, various animal exhibits, car shows, a garden show, contests such as worm racing and floral design, and, of course, all your favorite rides.
Are your kids so ready to get out of the house they’re climbing the walls? Then take them to Vertical Hold in San Marcos. This rock climbing gym is great for kids ages 13 and older and features everything you need to get started with this fun sport.
Chocolate Factory Tour
If you love chocolate, then you must make some time for a tour of Chuao Chocolatier in Carlsbad. Tours are available for children ages 10 and up and shows you how the delicious candy is made in this interactive experience. Best of all, you can sample a variety of their award-winning chocolate. Sign us up, too, please!
Museum of Making Music
Finally, if your family is anything at all like the Von Trapps, then head to the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad. Be immersed in the sounds of the ages, from the marches of the 1900s to today’s rock music. Enjoy exhibits of musical instruments and even get a chance to hold and play them. That’s better than having a drum kit in your garage, right?
