Are you ready to throw all your troubles away? Then you need to head to the Oceanside Pier! This iconic North County landmark is the perfect place to while away the day without a care in the world. Whether you’re looking for some quality alone time or you want to have a fun day out with the family, the Oceanside Pier is for you!
Walk the pier
First of all, you must walk the length of the Oceanside Pier. Did you know that at 1,942 feet, it’s one of the longest piers on the West Coast? Take in the sights as you take a leisurely stroll down the pier, including surfers, fisherman, and wildlife. You’ll likely spot all kinds of shore animals, including pelicans, seagulls, seals, dolphins, and even stingrays! You can also fish from the pier and no permits are required. The most popular catches include halibut, sea bass, and the occasional yellowtail.
Enjoy a meal at Ruby’s Diner
Once you get to the end of the pier, enjoy a bite to eat at Ruby’s Diner. The two-story diner offers amazing panoramic views of the ocean and can be seen from both floors. If you get there before 11:30 am, be sure to indulge in one of their specialties of the house, including cinnamon roll French toast or a breakfast grilled cheese. Their lunch and dinner menus include all your diner favorites like bacon cheeseburgers, fish & chips, and BLTs. Wash it all down with one of their mouth-watering classic shakes, or try a special flavor like salted caramel or strawberry pineapple.
Playday at the beach
The beach located just to the south of the pier, Pier View South, is the most popular beach in Oceanside. The beach here is wide and sandy and very close to downtown Oceanside. Although this beach tends to draw crowds, especially in the summer, there are so many fun things to do here. There are areas that are designated just for swimming and surfing, and you’ll often see surfing contests happening here in the summer. If you’re in the mood for some exercise, you’ll find volleyball courts and a playground. It’s also a great spot for a picnic, as there are picnic tables, benches, and barbecues. You’ll even find fire rings, so be sure to bring those s’mores!
Quiet day at the beach
If you’d prefer to stay away from the crowds, the beach just north of the pier, Pier View North, is less crowded than Pier View South. If you want to kick back and relax, this is the place for you. It’s the perfect place for families and you’ll find more sand. This beach also has volleyball courts as well as picnic tables and grills.
Take in a special event
If you plan it right, then you might just catch one of the special events happening at the Amphitheater, located at the entrance to the pier. Oceanside hosts their Summer Concerts from the amphitheater where you can enjoy free live music once a month from June to September. Check their website to see what’s happening when you plan your visit.
