Save the Date! Don’t Miss These 5 Amazing Local Fall Festivals

With Labor Day behind us, we think it’s safe to say that fall is here. If you love all things pumpkin spice and are ready for some sweater weather, then you’re no doubt excited that autumn is upon us. But if you’re sad to say goodbye to summer, then it’s time to look ahead at all the fun fall festivals happening in North County. Here’s a rundown of some of our local favorites to get you in that fall state of mind.

Vista Viking Festival

While Vikings may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of fall, it will be after you visit the Vista Viking Festival. Happening on September 21 and 22, this fabulous festival celebrates all things Norse and is ranked the #1 festival in the area on Yelp. Feel like you’ve stepped back in time while enjoying activities such as axe throwing, fish flinging, and spear throwing. Or enter yourself in the battle cry competition! The festival also features vendors, craft beers, ethnic foods, and a Kids Zone. Tickets are $15 for those 21 and older, $10 for people ages 13-20, and $3 for kids ages 6-12. Kids 5 and under get in free.

Oceanside Harbor Days

Oceanside Harbor Days is another can’t-miss event, also happening on September 21 and 22. This two-day festival features military displays, a Pirate Village, arts and crafts, a Nail ‘n’ Sail Competition, Tiki swim, live music, a beer garden, and a costume party for kids 12 and under. The event is open on both days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free for the entire family. Parking is also free, and there will be a free shuttle from the harbor.

Del Mar Harvest Festival

Are you ready to get a jump on your holiday shopping? Then head to the Del Mar Harvest Festival at the Del Mar County Fairgrounds. Taking place from October 11 – 13, this juried showcase features more than 24,000 handmade items to browse and buy. It’s the west coast’s largest and most prestigious indoor market showcase with some of the nation’s top vendors. You can also enjoy a variety of specialty foods, live entertainment, prizes, and a KidZone. General admission is $9, seniors and military are $7, and kids 13-17 are $4. Children 12 and under get in free.

Escondido Grand Avenue Festival

On Sunday, October 20, head to Escondido for the Grand Avenue Festival. This family- and dog-friendly event happens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Escondido’s historic downtown on Grand Avenue from Center City to Ivy. Shop hundreds of vendors, nosh on ethnic cuisine, and enjoy a variety of live entertainment acts. And bring your best friend to Dogs on the Lawn to participate in contests to win some great prizes provided by PetSmart.

Carlsbad Village Faire

Finally, start your November out right with a trip to the Carlsbad Village Faire. Held on November 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., this street fair is the largest one-day street fair in the country! You’ll find more than 800 vendors selling handmade gifts, art, antiques, jewelry, plants and delicious food. The kids will love the children’s area, which includes a bounce house, a super slide, a rock-climbing wall and face painting. Best of all, the fair is free to attend!
