North County Outdoor Movies

Summer and movies go together like rama lama lama ka dinga da dinga dong. But who wants to sit inside a dark theater to catch a flick when it’s so beautiful outside? Fortunately, you don’t have to! Many of the communities in North County sponsor outdoor movie nights throughout the summer. So grab a blanket and treat the family to a fun summer night.

Flicks by the Fountain

Carlsbad hosts Flicks by the Fountain, a weekly series of family-friendly films. Located behind the fountain on the corner of Grand Avenue and State Street, these free films happen every Thursday evening at dusk from July 5 to August 9. Bring a low-backed chair or picnic blanket and some snacks, or purchase a to-go meal from a nearby restaurant. Seating starts at 6pm, and the films begin around 8pm. Check the website for a full list of shows.

Movie at the Pier

Another great place to catch an outdoor movie is in Oceanside. The city presents the family film series Movie at the Pier on July 21 and August 25. The event is free and movies begin when it gets dark, between 7:30-8pm. Get there early to snag a good spot, and be sure to bring a comfortable chair or cushion to sit on as the area is concrete. Picnics are welcome, and food can be purchased nearby. The July movie will by Coco, followed by Star Wars: The Last Jedi in August.

Movies in the Park

The City of Vista offers the Movies in the Park series, which is a great opportunity to have some free family fun this summer, including free popcorn. Bring a blanket and a picnic as well as a light jacket as it can get a little chilly at night. Movies begin at 8pm and are presented at Brengle Terrace Park. On July 14 come early for Summer Fun Fest from 5:30-7:30pm and then enjoy a presentation of Despicable Me 3. On August 11, enjoy Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Summer Movies in Grape Day Park

Escondido is also getting in on the fun! They sponsor Summer Movies in Grape Day Park on Saturdays, which are free and family-friendly. Bring a beach chair or blanket. Popcorn, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase. At 7pm, kids can enjoy a variety of activities, followed by the movie at dusk. The schedule includes Beauty and the Beast on July 14, Leap on July 28, and Coco on August 11.

Summer Movies in the Park

The Fallbrook Community Center will be hosting free summer movie nights on July 20 and August 3. Movies are free, and the festivities include activities and giveaways. Bring lawn chairs, sweaters, blankets, and snacks. They’ll be showing The Incredibles in July and Coco in August.
