Last-Minute Holiday Gifts for Neighbors

One of the best reasons to live in North County San Diego is our great neighborhoods. And what makes those neighborhoods so special are the people who call them home. A wonderful way to show your appreciation to your neighbors at this time of year is to give them small holiday gifts. Unfortunately, many of us don’t think of this until the last possible moment. But don’t worry! There are so many great ideas for holiday gifts that take almost no time or preparation. Here are some of our favorites.

Goodie plates

Who doesn’t love holiday cookies? If you’re already baking cookies for your own celebrations, then why not add a couple of dozen that you can give out to your neighbors? You don’t need to give a giant plate to each person – a few cookies on a small, pretty holiday plate will suffice. After all – many of your neighbors probably already have a stash of cookies of their own. But it’s nice to have a variety of cookies to enjoy and offer to friends and family who stop by over the holidays.

Mason jar gifts

Chances are you have a few mason jars lying around your house. You can use them to make your own holiday gifts! There are so many ways you can fill them. Layer all the ingredients your neighbor will need to make a batch of brownies. Fill it with some delicious candies or popcorn from a local store. Or include everything they’ll need to make a pot of simmering potpourri. Once you’ve filled the jar, tie it with a pretty bow and add a card.

Movie night

After all the holiday hubbub, it’s nice to spend a quiet night at home. Help your neighbors relax by giving them a Redbox code they can use to rent a movie. Pair it with a bag of popcorn or a box of movie candy from the dollar store and they’ll have everything they need to have a fun movie night at home.

Wrapping paper

Is there anything worse than running out of wrapping paper or tape at the last minute? Be a hero to all your neighbors by handing out a roll of pretty holiday paper, gift tags, and a roll of tape. If you don’t know how your neighbors celebrate, then there are plenty of wrapping paper designs that are cheerful without celebrating a specific holiday.

Coffee shop gift cards

All this holiday partying can lead to fatigue (or a hangover), so why not treat your neighbors to a cup of joe? Purchase $5 or $10 gift cards to your local coffee shop that they can use when they need a boost. You get bonus points if the coffee shop is locally owned – it’s always great to support a small business in your neighborhood, especially during the holidays.

Hand sanitizer

‘Tis the season for bacteria and germs, so help your neighbors fight off the flu by gifting them a small bottle of hand sanitizer. They’re great for keeping in the car or tossing in your purse and helps to make sure everyone has a happy, healthy holiday.
