Start your summer at the 2015 San Diego County Fair! This annual event kicks off on Friday, June 5, and continues through Sunday, July 5. The fair is closed Mondays and the first two Tuesdays.
For centuries, people across the world have traveled to World’s Fairs to celebrate innovations, art and agriculture. In 1915, people flocked to San Diego for the Panama-California Exposition, held in Balboa Park. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this milestone event, and the history and influence World’s Fairs have had on the modern-day, the 2015 San Diego County Fair theme is A Fair To Remember: A Celebration of World’s Fairs and Balboa Park. It will commemorate the centennial anniversary of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition held in Balboa Park, and the great traditions and inventions arising from fairs. (Did you know the bicycle, telephone, ice cream cone, Ferris Wheel, and air conditioning were all introduced at a World’s Fair?)
The San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertson’s | Sav-On, offers all of the deep fried food on-a-stick, rides, animals, and games you’ve experienced at other state and county fairs, but is also known for world-class exhibits in fine art, photography, woodworking, jewelry/gems & minerals, and home & hobby, and the Paul Ecke Jr. Flower & Garden Show…not to mention an unsurpassed view of the Pacific Ocean from the Ferris Wheel! The Toyota Summer Concert Series at the San Diego County Fair features nationally recognized entertainment every night; the entertainment lineup is usually announced in late March. With an additional eight stages located throughout the grounds, you’re sure to find a band, dance troupe, DJ or comedian to suit your fancy!
