How to Host an Amazing Thanksgiving Dinner in Your North County Home

One of the biggest perks of owning a North County San Diego home is having a wonderful place to entertain family and friends. With our year-round temperate weather, so many properties in North County boast outdoor living spaces that can be used in all seasons. So why not show off your awesome digs by hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year? Here are some great tips to pull off an unforgettable feast.

Have a plan

The first order of business when hosting Thanksgiving (especially for newbies) is to have a plan. Give yourself plenty of time to get everything together, and know what you’re going to do. This includes determining the guest list, knowing where you’ll be serving the meal, and deciding on the menu.

Ask about dietary restrictions

Speaking of the menu, it’s important to know if any of your guests have special dietary restrictions. This could include allergies and food sensitivities as well as whether or not they are vegan or keep kosher. If you start to feel overwhelmed by the number of restrictions you’re dealing with, make it a potluck. Then you’ll know that everyone will have something they can enjoy.

Set the table

This is probably the most fun part of Thanksgiving. You can set your Thanksgiving table several days before the Big Day. This gives you plenty of time to really do it up. It also lets you know ahead of time if you don’t have enough tableware or utensils. It can also be helpful to use place cards so guests won’t have to spend time choosing where to sit.

Prepare food ahead of time

There are so many dishes to prepare for Thanksgiving, that it can be truly overwhelming if you wait until the day of the meal to make everything. Do yourself a favor and make as much as possible ahead of time. Even if you can’t make the entire dish, prepare the ingredients beforehand if you can, like chopping vegetables or toasting nuts.

Let people help you

Part of the fun of Thanksgiving is letting people help you. Even if you want to do everything by yourself, it’s important to set aside some jobs that other people can do – especially when they arrive at your home. People will want to pitch in, so have a list of tasks they can do for you. This can include filling water glasses, passes trays of appetizers, or keeping the kids occupied while you finish preparing the meal.

Have fun

This is the most important tip of all – you should have fun! Your guests will take their cues from you. If you aren’t having a good time at your own party, then they won’t either. Not everything will turn out perfectly, and that’s okay. What’s important is that you spend time with your loved ones and enjoy yourself. That’s really what Thanksgiving is all about anyway, isn’t it?
