The holidays can be a joyful — and stressful — time of the year. There are so many things to do, from planning a family dinner party to shopping for everyone on your list. Of course, the New Year is right around the corner. You may already be thinking about your resolutions for 2022 and getting a jump start on your post-holiday cleaning. But at this time of year, we think it’s important to take a little time to unplug. It’s been a challenging year, and you deserve a little rest. Here are some excellent tips to help you unplug now so you feel refreshed in January.
Take a break from your devices
We are connected now more than ever. While the pandemic has given us the freedom to have a little more unstructured time, it has also tethered us to our phones and computers in a new way. It’s important to your well-being to give yourself time to unplug, quite literally. While it would be ideal to disconnect from your email, phone, and social media from now until January 1, we know that isn’t really an option for most people. But if you can, take a day or even just an afternoon to do something other than look at a screen.
Have a TV-free day
Speaking of screens, we also spend a lot of time watching TV or streaming entertainment on our laptops, tablets, and phones. Yes, it can be super-relaxing to spend the day binging your favorite new show on Netflix. But it can also be fun to find a new way to spend your free time. Now is a great time to pick up a book. If you’re anything like us, then you have at least one book in your home that you bought but never read. Why not pick it up now? You may be surprised by how soothing and refreshing reading an actual paperback novel can be.
Lounge in the tub
Does your North County home have a big tub that you never really use? Taking a long, hot bath is an excellent form of self-care. Taking the time to soak can help to melt away stress. Light some candles, use a little bubble bath, pour yourself a glass of wine, and relax. Hey — you can even use this time to start reading that new book!
Go out in nature
One of the best things about living in North County San Diego is our beautiful natural landscape and temperate year-round climate. We have it all here — from pristine sandy beaches to mountains made for skiing. Head down to the water for a sunset stroll, or take a hike on any one of the many trails we have here in the San Diego area. Pack a picnic lunch and simply enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while you breathe in some fresh air.
