Where has the summer gone? We hope you’ve squeezed lots of fun out of the last couple of months because it’s already back-to-school season. Now is the time to get organized for the school year ahead. Here are some of the best North County back-to-school resources to get your family ready.
Go back-to-school shopping
Load the kids up in the car and head out on a retail adventure, because there’s tons of great back-to-school shopping in North County. Bargain hunters will love the choices at Carlsbad Premium Outlets, where you can score brand names at discount prices. For even more savings, head to La Costa Kids in Encinitas. This upscale children’s resale and retail boutique offers great finds for infants through teens. They get new inventory daily, so don’t be afraid to hit it up a few times over the coming weeks.
Stock up on healthy snacks
Getting kids to eat healthily can be a chore. But it’s so much easier if you provide them with their choice of healthy snacks. As the school year gets underway, make a weekly family trip to your local farmers market. Let your kids choose some snacks they might like to have for the coming week. Getting them involved in the process helps, especially when an afternoon at the farmers market includes entertaining activities for the kids.
Visit your local library
There’s no doubt that at some point during the school year your kids will need to make a trip to the local library. North County has so many incredible public libraries, each with their own amazing resources. Not only will your kids have a great place to work on projects, but they can also join book clubs, attend live concerts, take ukulele classes and so much more. Check your local branch to see what’s available near you.
Donate school supplies
When you’re out picking up school supplies for your kids, why not add a few extra items that can be donated? The San Diego County Office of Education sponsors the annual Stuff the Bus campaign where residents can donate new, unused school supplies for local kids in need. In 2017, the school-supply drive delivered more than 6,000 backpacks and 200,000 school supplies to students all over San Diego County. If you can’t make an in-kind donation, consider contributing to their online campaign.
Plan family time
Finally, don’t forget to sneak in some family time before the start of the school year. Go on an animal adventure at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Check out the Deep Sea Adventure at LEGOLAND. Spend a lazy day at the beach building sand castles. Explore the magical landscape at the San Diego Botanic Garden. Or have some educational fun at the interactive San Diego Children’s Museum.
