2016 San Diego County Fair: Join the fun at the 2016 San Diego County Fair as organizers present “Mad About the Fair,” a weird, wacky, and whimsical celebration of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” The 2016 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons | Vons, will be held Friday, June 3 through Monday, July 4. The Fair will be closed Mondays (except July 4) and the first two Tuesdays. The San Diego County Fair offers all of the deep fried-food-on-a-stick, rides, animals, and games you’ve experienced at other state and county fairs, but is also known for world-class exhibits in fine art, photography, woodworking, jewelry/gems and minerals, and home and hobby, and the Paul Ecke Jr. Flower & Garden Show…not to mention an unsurpassed view of the Pacific Ocean from the Ferris Wheel! The Toyota Summer Concert Series at the San Diego County Fair features nationally recognized entertainment every night; the entertainment lineup is usually announced in late March. With an additional eight stages located throughout the grounds, you’re sure to find a band, dance troupe, DJ or comedian to suit your fancy. The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the largest county fair in America, drawing 1.5 million visitors annually.
Filmout San Diego LGBT Film Festival: FilmOut San Diego’s 18th Annual LGBT Film Festival will take place from June 3-5. Over thirty films will be screened during the three-day film festival at the historic Observatory North Park Theatre in San Diego. Eighteen films will have their premiere with FilmOut San Diego along with award-winning films from both the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals, along with independent features and a variety of short films. Q&A’s will follow many films with director and cast members in attendance. “Kiss Me, Kill Me,” the fun, mystery-thriller, film noir whodunit will be the Opening Night film for FilmOut San Diego’s 18th LGBT Film Festival on June 3rd at The Observatory North Park. The after-party will be at Sunset Temple. Prices vary per show.
Mainly Mozart Festival – Operatic Overture: Mainly Mozart’s signature event, the annual Mainly Mozart Festival, brings together some of the world’s greatest artists for three weeks of orchestral concerts under the baton of Maestro Michael Francis at the historic Balboa Theatre; chamber music in intimate downtown venues; lectures, presentations and performances as part of Mozart & the Mind – Exploring the Music-Brain Effect; free open rehearsals of the Festival Orchestra; performances by the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra – and so much more. The 2016 Mainly Mozart Festival takes place in downtown San Diego from June 4-18. Ticket prices start at $20.
