There’s something so nice about being able to work out at home. You don’t have to get in the car, you don’t need to wait for your favorite machine to open up, and you can pack more into the day when your gym is just a few steps from your bed. But maybe you’ve thought you can’t set up a gym in your North County home because you’re short on space or money for such a project. That’s why we’d like to share with you these easy and inexpensive ways to DIY the perfect home gym.
Create a home office/gym hybrid
It seems like everything is hybrid these days, so why shouldn’t your home gym be, too? If you don’t have a spare room to use as a place to exercise, then consider making space in your home office. Since so many of us are still working from home at least part time, having a place to work out in your home office will (hopefully) motivate you to get some exercise every day. Create a little space on the floor for lifting weights, or carve out a corner for a stationary bike.
Turn a walk-in closet into a yoga studio
While we certainly understand the appeal of going to yoga class with other people, it isn’t always possible. If you’re looking for some space to devote to your yoga practice at home, then have you thought about a walk-in closet? Ideally, it would be amazing to devote an entire room to stretching and breathing. But if you don’t have that extra space, a walk-in closet could be just the ticket. Just make sure you have enough room for a few sun salutations.
Think vertically
When people are trying to find space for a home garden, they’re often advised to think vertically. The same can be true for a home gym, too. If you have lots of equipment but are short on storage, then consider adding shelving and a mirror to the corner of a room. This lets you get in your reps and store all your equipment without eating up valuable floor space.
Trick out that extra bedroom
If you are fortunate enough to have a spare bedroom or a guest bedroom that doesn’t get much use, then turn it into the home gym of your dreams. You don’t need to buy expensive gear or invest in pricey machines to get a good workout at home. But having the space to really work up a sweat can be very motivating, so have at it!
Personalize it
Finally, you want to create a space that you will actually use. So don’t be afraid to personalize it. Hang art, display favorite photos, paint the walls a cheerful color – whatever floats your boat. The more you make it your own, the more time you’ll want to spend in there.
