Lace up your running shoes this spring and challenge yourself at these local San Diego running events:
Cinco de Mayo Trail Run: The challenging and unique courses of the Cinco de Mayo Trail Run on May 2nd will take you out on the Lake Poway Trail through the foothills around the lake near Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. The 5K is designed to let you pick your pace. Enjoy it as an elite trail runner, as a challenging family run or simply a gorgeous morning nature hike. The 10K adds to this course – with a grueling out-and-back trek (or up-and-down if we’re being honest) into Blue Sky and a quad-burning +10% climb to the Ramona Dam. The Kathy Young Memorial Kids Race kicks off with a warm-up 15 minutes before the race starts, and is perfect for kids 7 and under who aren’t ready to tackle the 5K and the mini-runners who want the fun without the competition! The approximately 1/3-mile course follows a trail on the near-side of Lake Poway and finishes in the same spot as the 10K and 5K – so even the kids enjoy all the fun and festivity of the main finish line. Parents are invited to chaperone their children in this race.
Girls on the Go Half Marathon/10K/5K Run Walk: This event is a celebration of women of all sizes, ages and fitness levels. The Girls on the Go runs will be held on May 9 in San Diego. A stylish GOTG T-shirt and a Girlicous medal await you at the finish line. Every detail of the Girls on the Go half marathon, 10K/5K Run/Walk is planned with a woman in mind, giving mothers, daughters and girlfriends a chance to run wild during a morning of inspiration, education and entertainment. As you bolt across the finish line, you’ll enjoy lively music, receive your beautiful Finisher’s Medal, then head to the post-race festivities with your gals and the energy of over a thousand women celebrating their accomplishments. The Girls on the Go half marathon, 10k/5k Run-Walk is for women, men (Yes, men are welcome to run with us. Although not eligible for awards, our guys will receive a girlicious finisher’s medal), and children. A race number is required for each person on the half marathon, 10K and 5k course, including babies and children. Service dogs are welcome. The half marathon age limit is 12 by race day. Not allowed on the course: pets, bicycles, rollerblades, or skateboards.
San Diego River Run and Ride: Come as your favorite Sustainable Superhero and join Lakeside’s River Park Conservancy for the 7th Annual “San Diego River Run” 5k Run & Walk & Bike Rally on May 9. This year’s course will begin at Santee’s Town Center Community Park East (550 Park Center Dr, Santee, CA) and head east to the Lakeside Ballfields and back. The course showcases the diversity of the trails along the San Diego River Trail and also highlights Santee’s recreational amenities. The course is a smooth run with no tripping hazards and is kind to knees and feet. Each paid entry includes a t-shirt, refreshments, and the chance to enjoy the River Park Festival right after the race. Dogs on leashes are welcome. This year’s event will also include a Beer Garden. Each runner over 21 years old with proper identification will get a free beer sample.
