Celebrating Mother’s Day at Home

Dorothy Gale said it best – “There’s no place like home.” We couldn’t agree more, especially for those of us who live in North County San Diego. With our gorgeous climate and beautiful homes that blend indoor/outdoor living, every day can feel like living in a resort. Which is why we think celebrating Mother’s Day at home can be a home run. Here are some fun ideas for hosting your own Mother’s Day celebration at home.

Serve breakfast in bed

You really can’t go wrong with an old stand-by. Start your Mother’s Day celebration off right by serving Mom breakfast in bed. Here are some fun recipes that even the kids can help with. Let Mom sleep in, and when you’re done, clean up the kitchen for her.

Clean the house

Why stop at just cleaning the kitchen? Make Mother’s Day the day that your mom enjoys a clean house without having to do any of the work herself. Make yourself a checklist and prioritize which chores to do first. Then assign chores to each person in the family. Let Mom relax and resist the urge to ask her where all the cleaning supplies are kept.

Complete a home project

Is there a home project on your mom’s to-do list that she just hasn’t had the time to complete? Then why not make her day by completing it for her? Maybe she’d like to paint the master bathroom or finally turn that spare room into a craft room. Or maybe she’d just like to be able to park the car in the garage again. Whatever she most wants to be done in your home, plan to complete that project for her on Mother’s Day.

Make a slide show or video

Is your mom the sentimental kind? Then she’ll love a homemade slide show or video that shows her just how much you care. Get everyone in the family to record a video message to her, and edit them together with her favorite song. Or put a slide show together of one of her favorite family trips so she can cherish those memories forever.

Binge watch her favorite TV show

Even if your mom’s favorite TV show is not your cup of tea, plan a binge-watching afternoon where she’s in charge of the remote. Whether it’s endless episodes of “The Great British Baking Show” or reruns of “Friends”, your mom will love spending time with you while also watching her favorite show.

Have a backyard picnic

Picnics and Mother’s Day go hand-in-hand. Spring is in full swing, so get out that picnic blanket and basket and plan a backyard picnic. Choose foods that are easy to make and eat outside, like sandwiches and salads. And don’t forget the mimosas!

Start an herb garden

Does your mom love to cook? Then why not help her start an herb garden for Mother’s Day? You can order herbs online and create either an indoor or an outdoor herb garden. Your mom will love having fresh herbs at her fingertips this summer.
