Celebrate Oktoberfest in San Diego!

Nothing welcomes fall like a rousing Oktoberfest celebration! Enjoy all things German at these four festivals, with everything from food, dance — and of course, German beer. There’s something for everyone at these fun family events!

La Mesa Oktoberfest: A tradition for the community of La Mesa is the annual Oktoberfest. This activity brings visitors and vendors from all over the region to La Mesa for a weekend that is dedicated to family, friends, great food and entertainment. This year the La Mesa Chamber was proud to partner with the La Mesa Village Merchants Association, who began this popular event more than 35 years ago. This event has gone from a small street fair to a 3 day festival, with 400 vendors offering goods and services to over 186,000 attendees. Add great food, lots of children activities, entertainment and of course, good old German brats and cold beer and you have a family event that has something for everyone. October 3-5.

Carlsbad Oktoberfest: The Carlsbad Rotary Oktoberfest starts with a traditional German Dinner catered by Carlsbad‘s own Tip Top Meats, combined with World Famous Apple Strudel for dessert! Enjoy one of several fine beers, wine, or non-alcoholic drinks that are available. Enjoy plenty of musical entertainment throughout the day, including great dance music and the famed “Chicken Dance!” Children will enjoy the Oktoberfest pumpkin patch and pumpkin decorating contest, inflatable jumpers, face painting, antique fire truck and much much more. October 4, noon – 10 p.m.

Ramona Oktoberfest: Join the Ramona Chamber of Commerce at its 10th annual Oktoberfest! This fun annual family event will include a kids’ zone, coloring contest, a pumpkin patch, games, food vendors, and a classic car show. In addition, there will be a beer garden featuring local San Diego breweries and local wineries, as well as music by the Kalifornia Krauts. The Ramona Oktoberfest will take place on October 4 from 1 p.m. – 10 p.m. Admission is $10; kids 10 and under and active military are free.

Oktoberfest in El Cajon: Head to El Cajon for a traditional Oktoberfest, sponsored by the German American Societies of San Diego. You can enjoy authentic German food, such as bratwurst, ox-on-the-spit, potato salad, potato pancakes, sauerkraut, red cabbage and a variety of German pastries. There will be a great selection of German beers and liquors, and soft drinks and water, to enjoy with your friends and family. The band, the Guggenbach-Buam, joins the party from Baden-Württemberg, Germany. These talented, fine musicians dress in traditional clothing, and play a variety of German music, just as you would hear in the beer gardens in Bavaria. Play a song from the Guggenbach-Buam band using the controller on the right. Enjoy songs from the chicken dance, to polkas and waltzes, dance or sing along to some wonderful Oom-pah tunes. Enjoy traditional folk dancing performances, compete in our numerous games and contests, check out vendor and craft booths, and treat your kids to their own Kids’ Zone. Bring your family and friends to El Cajon and experience a real German Oktoberfest. September 26-28 and October 3-5. Admission is $5; under 21 and active military are free.
