Celebrate Cinco De Mayo!

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at these San Diego events!

Cinco de Mayo Trail Run: The challenging and unique courses of the Cinco de Mayo Trail Run will take you out on the Lake Poway Trail through the foothills around the lake near Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. The 5K is designed to let you pick your pace. Enjoy it as an elite trail runner, as a challenging family run or simply a gorgeous morning nature hike. The 10K adds to this course – with a grueling out-and-back trek (or up-and-down if we’re being honest) into Blue Sky and a quad-burning +10% climb to the Ramona Dam. Take this advice and start training now. The Kathy Young Memorial Kids Race kicks off with a warm-up 15 minutes before the race starts and is perfect for kids 7 and under who aren’t ready to tackle the 5K and the mini-runners who want the fun without the competition. The approximately 1/3-mile course follows a trail on the near-side of Lake Poway and finishes in the same spot as the 10K and 5K – so even the kids enjoy all the fun and festivity of the main finish line. Parents are invited to chaperone their children in this race. May 7.

Old Town Fiesta Cinco da Mayo: Each year thousands flock to Old Town, San Diego’s oldest, historic neighborhood, to take a step back in time and celebrate! The annual Fiesta Old Town Cinco de Mayo will be celebrating 33 years of tradition packed with activities for all ages. Old Town will be transformed into the largest Cinco de Mayo celebration north of the border, filled with mariachis, cervezas, great food, and more. The Fiesta will feature four stages with live entertainment, over 40 bands, including vibrant, traditional ballet folklorico performances, lively beer and margarita gardens and of course, Low Rider Lane. Feed your appetite by feasting at over 10 delicious restaurants and tequilerias to enjoy the flavors of the celebration and quench your thirst. How does a specialty margarita sound? Maybe an ice cold cerveza or traditional agua fresco (fresh water), like tamarind, jamaica or horchata! This free family festival will take place on Saturday, May 7th from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Lucha Libre: On Thursday, May 5, Fluxx is throwing the biggest Cinco De Mayo party in San Diego! Shoot back shots of tequila while you watch masked wrestlers dressed as superheroes and villains rumble inside the ring in the middle of the club. Margaritas will be flowing, Mexican inspired appetizers will be available, laser lights will be blazing, and the DJ will be spinning your favorite hits in between matches. Wrestling legend, Mil Mascaras “The man of a thousand masks,” will be hosting the night then wrestling in the grand finale match. Mil Mascaras was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010, and the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012, and is known as one of the original “Big Three” of the Lucha Libre tradition. Proceeds will benefit a local charity, so come out and support a good cause while you cheer on your favorite luchador! May 5.
