Having fresh fruits and veggies at your fingertips is one of the hallmarks of a life well lived. And here in North County San Diego, you will not want for a place to find just-picked, locally grown and organic produce. As a bonus, you’ll also find plenty of beautiful flowers, artisanal foods, and handmade crafts. Here’s a look at some of the farmers markets in the area that we love.

State Street Farmers Market – Carlsbad

Happening on Wednesday evenings from 3 pm – 7 pm, the State Street Farmers Market is located between Grand Avenue and Carlsbad Village Drive. They’ve been voted in the top five of all the farmers markets within San Diego County. This is one you definitely want to check out.

MainStreet Oceanside’s Farmers Market

There’s so much to choose from at the MainStreet Oceanside’s Farmers Market. It’s held every Thursday from 9 am – 1 pm on the corner of Coast Highway and Pier View Way. You’ll find the typical farmers market fare as well as dozens of booths featuring handmade goods like soaps, lotions, clothing, jewelry, and photography. If you don’t get enough during the day, stop by from 5 pm – 9 pm for the Sunset Market. It’s a must-see food and music street fair that has been ranked San Diego County’s top weekly fair.

Vista Farmers Market

The Vista Farmers Market has been showing all the other markets how to do it for many years – it is the oldest farmers market in San Diego County. It’s open rain or shine every Saturday from 8 am – 1 pm at the San Diego County Courthouse, even holidays. The market features 53 farmers with in-season produce and 34 artisans selling prepared foods like pies and pickles.

Downtown Escondido’s Certified Farmers Market

Find fresh-picked California produce and flowers at Downtown Escondido’s Certified Farmers Market. It’s open on Tuesdays year round from 2:30 pm – 6 pm and is located on Juniper between Grand Avenue, Valley Parkway, and Heritage Garden. In addition to all the fresh fruit and vegetables, you’ll find local honey, eggs, tamales and more.

Bonsall Certified Farmer’s Market and Open Air Faire

Held every Sunday from 10 am – 2 pm at the Bonsall Elementary School, the Bonsall Farmer’s Market and Open Air Faire is a real crowd pleaser. You can get everything from locally grown produce and meat to exotic plants. You’ll also find Greek-style olive oil, handmade chocolates from Peru, organic teas, kettle corn, and prepared ethnic foods. The market also features crafts, jewelry, and entertainment for the whole family.
