Hockey on Tuesdays, Lacrosse on Saturdays: How Frontwave Arena Divided the Winter Week

  • November 5, 2026

The Oceanside Shock have 11 home dates at Frontwave Arena from mid-November through January 20. All 11 fall on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. The San Diego Sockers mostly take Sundays. The San Diego Seals open on a Saturday. The San Diego Clippers fill whatever nights are left, including three home games in the last four days of December.

Two years after it opened, the arena off Mission Avenue and Rancho Del Oro Drive has more winter tenants than it has weekend nights. The teams have spread across the calendar, so the venue now draws crowds on Tuesday nights, Thursday nights and New Year's Eve. For anyone who lives within earshot of the Rancho Del Oro SPRINTER station, this winter's schedule looks very different from the one the building opened with.

How a two-year-old building collected four winter teams

Frontwave Arena opened in Oceanside in 2024 with 7,500 seats. It was built privately for a reported $85 million by a group that includes Sudberry Properties, which also developed a nearby mixed-use project, according to Times of San Diego. The NBA G League's San Diego Clippers, an affiliate of the LA Clippers, have been the main tenant since they moved to Oceanside for the 2024–25 season.

Other teams followed. The Sockers left their decades-long home at Pechanga Arena when Frontwave opened in 2024. The San Diego Strike Force, an Indoor Football League team, followed in 2025, as The Coast News reported. In August, the same outlet reported that nearly 4,300 fans watched the Strike Force beat the Tucson Sugar Skulls 54–47 at Frontwave. It was the franchise's first home playoff win, and it sent the team to the IFL's Western Conference Championship.

This season brought two more teams. The Oceanside Shock are playing their first season in the Federal Prospects Hockey League, a professional single-A minor league, with 28 home games on the schedule. The San Diego Seals of the National Lacrosse League announced in August that they would leave Pechanga Arena, their home since 2018. That makes them the third professional team to move from Pechanga to Frontwave. The Seals averaged 6,616 fans a game last season. The Coast News reported that the team called North County a strong youth and high school lacrosse market, and that the Oceanside location gives the Seals a chance to draw fans from southern Orange County and the Inland Empire as well.

"Frontwave is a first-class, intimate venue that brings fans closer to the action than ever before," Seals CEO Paul Speaker said in the team's announcement, as quoted by The Coast News.

Basketball, indoor soccer, hockey and lacrosse all play in the same months, so four teams are competing for the same winter dates.

Each team took its own nights

Here is every home date and touring show on the Frontwave Arena events calendar from Sunday, November 15 through December 31, sorted by day of the week.

Friday Clippers, Nov. 20, Dec. 11 WWE NXT Holiday Live Tour, Dec. 4

Sunday Clippers, Nov. 22, Dec. 6 · Sockers, Dec. 27 Compete 4 Cause Classic: SDSU vs NMSU, Nov. 15 · A Magical Cirque Christmas, Dec. 13

Every day of the week has at least two events in those seven weeks. Weekday nights now carry about as much as the weekends do.

The Shock account for most of the early-week dates. They play in pairs against the same opponent on consecutive nights: the Fresno Falcons on November 17 and 18, the Topeka Scarecrows on December 8 and 9, and Fresno again on December 21 and 22. The pattern holds in January, with Tuesday and Wednesday pairs on January 5 and 6 and January 12 and 13, and one more Wednesday game on January 20. The arena lists the December 8 and January 5 games at 7:00 p.m. The Shock's bench is in Section 115, and the team shoots twice toward the east end, Sections 108 through 111.

The Sockers are at the other end of the week. The 17-time champions open their home schedule on Saturday, November 28 against the Empire Strykers. Their 2026–27 schedule announcement shows mostly Sunday home games after that: Empire on December 27, the St. Louis Ambush on January 3 at 4:30 p.m., and the Milwaukee Wave on January 24. That Milwaukee game starts a three-match homestand that continues with Tacoma on Friday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Baltimore on Sunday, January 31 at 4:30 p.m. The announcement also says the Sockers have no back-to-back matches this season for the first time in memory.

"We are ready to provide San Diego County's indoor soccer fans with a premier experience before and during the match at Frontwave Arena, as we aim for back-to-back championships," Sockers president Sean Bowers said in the release.

The Clippers fill in around everyone else. Their home dates fall on six different days of the week between November 20 and December 31.

Eleven days in December with one dark night

All of these schedules overlap most in the first half of December. Between Thursday, December 3 and Sunday, December 13, the arena calendar has an event on every date except Monday, December 7.

  1. Thursday, Dec. 3: Clippers vs. Stockton Kings
  2. Friday, Dec. 4: WWE NXT Holiday Live Tour
  3. Saturday, Dec. 5: KSON Country Christmas
  4. Sunday, Dec. 6: Clippers vs. Stockton Kings
  5. Tuesday, Dec. 8: Shock vs. Topeka Scarecrows
  6. Wednesday, Dec. 9: Shock vs. Topeka Scarecrows
  7. Thursday, Dec. 10: Hudson Westbrook
  8. Friday, Dec. 11: Clippers vs. Rip City Remix
  9. Saturday, Dec. 12: Clippers vs. Rip City Remix
  10. Sunday, Dec. 13: A Magical Cirque Christmas

Six days later, on Saturday, December 19, the Seals play their first game at their new home. The arena lists it as the Home Opener, against the Oshawa FireWolves. Seals coach and general manager Patrick Merrill told The Coast News that having fans so close to the floor will create "amazing energy on game nights" and "a tremendous home-field advantage." The Seals' team schedule has their next home game on Saturday, January 9 against the Saskatchewan Rush.

The holiday week stays busy. The Shock play Monday and Tuesday, December 21 and 22. The Sockers play Sunday, December 27, and the Clippers close the year on December 28, 29 and 31.

Getting in and out from the Rancho Del Oro side

Events on so many nights make the arena's parking rules matter more for neighbors. Frontwave has two lots: Pala Casino Premium, called Lot A, and General Parking, called Lot B. A parking pass is required, the lots open one hour before doors, and they are cleared an hour after each event ends. The arena recommends reserving parking ahead of time and sells passes on event day while they last.

For people who live nearby, transit may be easier. The arena's directions page lists Rancho Del Oro Station as the closest train stop and Rancho Del Oro/El Corazon as the closest bus stop. It puts the Oceanside Transportation Center five miles away. Rancho Del Oro Station is on the SPRINTER, the 22-mile light-rail line between Oceanside and Escondido. A 7:00 p.m. Shock game on a Tuesday is a short trip from the station.

Some tickets reach the area without a box office purchase. The arena says it gives complimentary community tickets to local nonprofits and schools. Its Hero of the Game program honors service members and first responders at home games and gives each honoree four tickets and parking.

The schedule runs into spring

After the late-January homestand, the Sockers host Tacoma on Friday, February 12 and the expansion Lehigh Valley Spirits on Friday, February 26. They also host Milwaukee on Wednesday, March 10, which the announcement calls a rare midweek home match. The season ends with three home matches in a row: Empire on Saturday, March 20, Baltimore on Friday, March 26, and Kansas City on Sunday, April 4 at 4:30 p.m., a Fan Appreciation Day match.

The next team dates come soon after this post publishes: the Shock host Fresno on Tuesday, November 17 and Wednesday, November 18, and the Clippers host the Valley Suns on Friday, November 20.
