Quality of life is one of the most important considerations when choosing where to live. And one of the ways to enhance your quality of life is to engage in cultural activities and entertainment, especially live music. In fact, attending concerts is actually good for your health and well being, according to U.S. News and World Report. Here in North County, we’re lucky to have an abundance of venues that feature live music. Here are some of our favorites.
California Center for the Arts in Escondido
The California Center for the Arts in Escondido is known as the “art and soul” of the community and it is easy to see why. They host some of the best concerts and live music events in the area, all year long. One of the fun events coming up in July is the Escondido Choral Arts Moon Landing Celebration Concert in honor of the 50th anniversary of the NASA moon landing. In August they are hosting an evening with blues legends including Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Charlie Musselwhite.
Sunset Market in Oceanside
Another great place for live music that’s also family friendly is the Sunset Market in Oceanside. This weekly event takes place every Thursday from 5 – 9 pm and features an eclectic mix of live music throughout the year. The Main Stage hosts a new band every week. Upcoming performers include Hoodoo Blues on July 11, Slowburn on July 18, and Jim Allen Band on July 25.
Del Mar Fairgrounds
While the Del Mar Fairgrounds is most notable in the summertime as the location of the San Diego County Fair, it also hosts a wide range of live music events. Some upcoming shows this summer include the 4 O-clock Friday Concert Series, Reggae Fest with Ziggy Marley on July 20, J Boog on July 26, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue on August 2, and Chase Rice on August 16. Check their website for the full list of scheduled shows.
The Landings at Carlsbad
If you want a truly unique live music experience, then head to The Landings at Carlsbad. Here you can watch planes take off and land while noshing on some tasty treats and listening to a great band. They feature live music on most Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings as well as Sunday mornings during brunch. Upcoming guests include Captain Hook Eric Clapton Tribute, The Blast/Blasting Idiots, Jackson Patrick, and Jim Gibson.
Finally, for a relaxing Sunday afternoon, head to Bernardo Winery in nearby Rancho Bernardo for live music on the tasting room patio. Every Sunday from 2 – 5 pm, they feature a rotating roster of live musical acts including Whitney Shay, Chini & Camberos, MOJO Sessions, and Jimmy & Enrique. In addition to their wonderful wine selections, they offer cheese and charcuterie. No reservations are required but come early for the best seats.
