Autumn Curb Appeal for Home Sellers

Just because those summer blooms have faded doesn’t mean your North County home for sale can’t have awesome curb appeal. Your home’s exterior is the first thing that potential buyers see, so it’s important to make it as attractive as possible. Fall is a great time to get your yard spruced up before your home hits the market. Try some of these great tips to create autumn curb appeal that will make buyers want to see more.

Trim trees and bushes

If you’ve been putting off trimming the bushes, trees, and shrubs in your yard, then now is the time to tackle this task. Having neatly trimmed plants in your yard will make it look tidy and add significantly to your curb appeal. If you have large trees on your lot that have dead branches, then consider calling a professional tree service to get the job done.

Clean up debris

With summer fading, you’ll no doubt have some plants in your yard that have seen better days. Deadhead plants with spent blooms and remove annuals that look tired. Clean up any leaves, twigs, and branches in the yard. Make sure sidewalks and driveways are also clear of any debris.

Plant fall annuals

There are so many great flowering annuals that thrive in fall. Take advantage of those sales at your local garden center and fill in spaces in your yard with pansies, marigolds, or mums. While these plants won’t necessarily last through the winter, they will make a bold visual statement now. Be sure to keep them watered so they continue to look fresh.

Mulch

It’s kind of amazing what a fresh layer of mulch can do to perk up a yard. After you’ve cleaned up your garden beds and planted fresh annuals, add some new mulch. It will revitalize your landscape and cover up all those pesky weeds from the summer.

Clean the gutters

It’s nobody’s favorite job, but it needs to be done. Make sure to give your roof and gutters a thorough cleaning before showing the house. Potential buyers will be looking at all the details, and they’ll notice if there are any tiny trees sprouting at your roofline.

Upgrade your entryway

Giving your front door a fresh coat of paint in an eye-catching color can’t be beat when it comes to curb appeal. Take it a step further and paint or replace your mailbox. Get a fresh welcome mat to complete the look.

Add some seasonal décor

Finally, top off your autumn curb appeal with a little seasonal décor. The key here is to tread lightly – a little goes a long way. Consider adding a festive wreath, a pot or two of mums, or a few pumpkins and gourds around the front door. Keep it tasteful and avoid any Halloween decorations that might detract from the beauty of your home.
