5 Best Beaches in North County San Diego

Who’s ready to hit the beach? One of the best things about living in North County San Diego is our close proximity to some of the best beaches in the world. The area is home to dozens of beaches, each with its own unique personality. With so many to choose from, it can be tough to decide where to park your beach umbrella on your next outing. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite beaches in North County. It’s time to get out there and enjoy some sunshine and salty breezes!

Moonlight State Beach

Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas is one of the most popular beaches in North County for a reason. This family-friendly location has it all — easy parking, fire pits, volleyball courts, a snack shop, a play area, and showers you can use after your swim. The water at this beach is gentle and if you get there early enough you may even catch dolphins playing in the surf. There are many restaurants and bars within a few blocks walking distance to complete your day.

Buccaneer Beach

Buccaneer Beach in Oceanside is another great destination that the whole family can enjoy. There are designated spots for waders, swimmers, surfers, and bodyboarders and there’s a lifeguard on duty. You also find a playground, snack shack, basketball courts, grass park, and clean facilities. The best part? Parking is free! But you should get there early to make sure you snag a spot.

Carlsbad State Beach

If beautiful views are what you’re after, then head to Carlsbad State Beach in Carlsbad. While it’s popular with locals, it doesn’t get too crowded. Here you can enjoy spectacular views of the ocean from the cliffs. This beach is almost five miles long and is a favorite place for campers and surfers. There are also paved jogging paths above the water and along the beach. They also offer free parking in several different areas.

Swami’s Beach

Swami’s Beach in Encinitas has been a longtime favorite with surfing enthusiasts. Not only is it a great place to catch some waves, but many people also enjoy simply watching all the surfers from the park. A long stairway leads down to the beach from the steep bluff, and during low tide, you can explore some tide pools north of the stairs. There are also many wonderful cafes within walking distance.

Seaside Beach

Finally, at the south tip of Cardiff State Beach between Cardiff and Solana Beach, you’ll find Seaside Beach. It’s part of a large state park that includes San Elijo Lagoon and here you can explore tide pools along a long sandy strip of beach. You can also enjoy swimming, snorkeling, or watching the surfers ride the break over the reef. During low tide, you can also walk over to Tide Park. Parking is on Highway 101 and there are many dining options up the highway.
